What is UNetwrk?

UNetwrk helps users, particularly job seekers and professionals early in their careers, to track, organize, and maintain their professional connections, offering an easier way to build and nurture relationships for long-term career growth.

It’s targeted at solving the challenges of staying in touch with contacts and optimizing networking efforts.

UNetwrk’s LinkedIn Chrome extension automates the management of network contacts by saving and importing LinkedIn profile information.

The Challenge

UNetwrk initially launched with a landing page that didn’t perform as expected.

The issue

The landing page message was too broad and failed to speak to any specific audience.

UNetwrk didn’t have a narrow enough Ideal Customer Profile (ICP).

Global coding bootcamp market has an expected compound annual growth rate of 12.27% and will reach 1 billion dollars in 2030.

Average age of tech bootcamp students is 29.

I surveyed tech bootcamp students about LinkedIn activity.

88% are active on LinkedIn.

42.9% spend 6+ hours/week on Linkedin.

I spoke to tech bootcamp grads who recently landed jobs.

100% got their job through networking.

They said using spreadsheets to track their networking connections was time-consuming, frustrating, and easy to lose track.

Meet Ashley

UNetwrk’s narrowed ICP is based on insights from surveys and customer discovery calls.

Ashley is a 26-year old aspiring Product Designer focused on building relationships networking more than on applications. She realized early in her job search networking is important and she is active on LinkedIn.

While she does use a table she created in Notion to track her interactions networking, she finds it too cumbersome to keep track, and the table she created is not up-to-date.

She is a member of a Slack community with graduates of her UX Design bootcamp. The community supports each other in the job search.

The Redesign

I focused on how UNetwrk could solve Ashley’s networking challenges. Every aspect of the design, from visuals to copy, was tailored to meet her needs, address her pain points, and resonate with her.

Design inspiration

I looked at the websites tech bootcamp students frequent.

Conversation mining

I analyzed survey responses and chats for frequently used words.

I also created a networking newsletter to provide value to job seekers and added a sign-up form at the bottom of the landing page.

Takeaways

This redesign serves as a testament to the power of understanding and speaking directly to your audience. 

UNetwrk is now positioned to better serve its users and help them grow their networks.

I worked closely in collaboration with a software engineer. Clearly communicating design choices and using the power of Figma's dev mode ensured we met our 4-week deadline to implement the new design.
